Acclimatisation

This itinerary stays below 3,000 m, where the sleeping-gain guideline does not apply.

Sleeping altitude by night, with gains above 500 m marked where the night is above 3,000 m

Cited to the Wilderness Medical Society Clinical Practice Guidelines (2024): above 3,000 m, do not increase sleeping elevation by more than 500 m per day, and take a rest day every 3–4 days. WMS itself notes that terrain often makes strict adherence impossible.

This is itinerary information, not medical advice, and not clearance to trek. Acclimatisation varies between individuals.

Your trip, day by day — all 8 days, travel included

Every day of the 8-day trip in the order it happens, including the flights, drives and rest days that have no walking stage. These are trip day numbers. The next section numbers walking days instead, starting again at 1, so a day number here and a walking day number there are not the same day.

  1. Day 1 of 8

Kathmandu — Arrival & Trek Preparation

Arrive in Kathmandu and go through permits for the Langtang National Park and TIMS card ahead of the drive to Syabrubesi.

  2. Day 2 of 8

    Drive to Syabrubesi (1,460m)

The drive from Kathmandu follows the Trisuli River to Syabrubesi (1,460m), the roadhead for the whole Langtang region.

  3. Day 3 of 8

    Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2,238m)

The trail climbs into Tamang country, reaching Gatlang (2,238m), a traditional Tamang village of stone houses and carved wooden windows.

  4. Day 4 of 8

    Gatlang to Tatopani (2,607m)

Continue climbing to Tatopani (2,607m), a village named for its natural hot springs.

  5. Day 5 of 8

    Rest Day in Tatopani (2,607m)

A day to soak in the hot springs and rest before the climb to Nagthali.

  6. Day 6 of 8

    Nagthali (3,165m) — Descend to Thuman (2,338m)

The trail climbs to Nagthali (3,165m), a viewpoint crossed rather than slept at and the highest point of the trek, with a panorama that takes in Langtang Lirung (7,227m). The trail then descends to the Tamang village of Thuman (2,338m).

  7. Day 7 of 8

    Thuman to Briddim (2,229m)

Descend to Briddim (2,229m), a community homestay village lower in the valley.

  8. Day 8 of 8

Briddim to Syabrubesi (1,460m) — End of Trek

The final descent returns to Syabrubesi (1,460m). The return drive to Kathmandu is a further day, beyond this trek's own 8.

Walking days on the mapped route — 6 days of sourced altitudes

Numbered by walking day: walking day 1 is the first day with a mapped stage. Every altitude below is a waypoint from this route's own sources, listed at the foot of the page.

Walking day 1
  • Syabrubesi 1,460 m overnight

7-9h drive from Kathmandu; the roadhead for the whole Langtang region.

Walking day 2
  • Gatlang 2,238 m overnight

Traditional Tamang village. OSM tags this and the three settlements below (Thuman, Briddim, Sundarijal) as place=suburb rather than hamlet/village — Nepal's OSM community appears to use 'suburb' for named administrative wards even in rural mountain settings. The region's places-query.ts was extended this session to include place=suburb after the standard hamlet/village query returned nothing for any of them.

Walking day 3
  • Tatopani 2,607 m overnight

    Natural hot springs.

Walking day 4
  • Nagthali 3,165 m day stop

Viewpoint crossed en route to Thuman, not slept at — the highest point on this trek. Panorama of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal and (on a clear day) Shishapangma.

  • Thuman 2,338 m overnight

    Tamang village below Nagthali.

Walking day 5
  • Briddim 2,229 m overnight

    Community homestay village.

Walking day 6
  • Syabrubesi 1,460 m overnight

End of trek. The return drive to Kathmandu is a further day, not counted in this route's 8.

The remaining 2 days of this 8-day trip cover travel to and from the trailhead, and buffer time for delays en route — the specifics vary by route.

Trekkers' Information Management System card NPR 2,000 Verified 2026-09-07

Trekkers' Information Management System card: TAAN publishes a further breakdown by trekker type: Blue (group) TIMS NPR 1,000, Green (individual/FIT) TIMS NPR 2,000, SAARC group NPR 300, SAARC FIT NPR 600 — see https://www.taan.org.np/page/about-tims. Applicability in the Everest and Annapurna regions is contested as of the verifiedOn date. NTB's own TIMS page (this source) and TAAN's own TIMS page (https://www.taan.org.np/page/about-tims) both still list Everest and Annapurna trek routes as requiring TIMS, under a provision dated effective March 31, 2023, with no visible update since. Current operator practice, reported consistently across 2026-dated trekking-agency sites, describes TIMS as discontinued in Everest (replaced by the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Trek-Card) and no longer enforced on standard Annapurna routes, with checkpoints there said to verify only the conservation-area permit. We could not find a primary NTB, TAAN or DNPWC circular confirming that change, so neither position is asserted here.

Permit fees above are the only figures on this page we have re-verified against the issuing authority; the route's itinerary and altitudes are built from the sources listed further down this page, not independently re-verified with one. Other trip costs — teahouse accommodation, a guide, a porter, and flights where the route requires one — vary by season, operator and party size and are not itemised here.
